From theme days at your kid’s school to fun costume parties, there’s always an opportunity to dress like your favourite superhero, musician or household item. You can dress up as Batman, or a tube of ChapStick, the possibilities are endless. One year, I dressed up like a cluster of grapes using purple balloons and green felt. Let’s just say that moving around was a tad squeaky!
Did you know that your closet and your local MCC Thrift shop can be a source for economical and sustainable costumes for your whole family?
This fall, go through your closet and stop by your local MCC Thrift shop for your costume needs. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
Mary Poppins | You’ll need a white collared button-down shirt, red ribbon, black bowler hat, black skirt, black tights, large bag and an umbrella.
Where’s Waldo? | Look for a red and white striped shirt, red and white beanie, jeans and black-framed glasses.
Rosie the Riveter | You’ll need a red head scarf, chambray shirt or a denim jumpsuit and red lipstick.
Cactus Plant | Look for a green dress or long sleeve shirt/pant combo, short strands of white yarn sewn on for “spikes” and optional cactus flower accessories. Learn how to make a DIY cactus costume.
