Globally, we waste about 1.4 billion tons of food every year. That’s equivalent to 1.4 billion 1979 Volkswagen Beetles going into a landfill annually. So what can we do to get this number down?
This week, put a “use it first” box in your fridge. What is a “use it first” box? It’s a box or a designated spot in your fridge where you put items that will be expiring soon like produce, meat or dairy products.
When you’re figuring out what to make for dinner, look at this box first so you know what needs to be used. This challenge will not only help reduce food waste, it’ll also extend your weekly food budget by helping you use everything you buy.
