Volunteers are the foundation of our operation! We welcome new applicants whether they are looking for casual volunteer work during retirement, students looking to fulfill Community Service requirements, or anyone else wanting to experience a rewarding volunteer opportunity.
PORT THRIFT is looking for friendly folks to join our team of volunteers. If you have some spare time, want to be a part of an organization that helps support MCC and our local community, all while having fun, you might be just the person we need!
Here are a few examples of the volunteer positions at PORT THRIFT:
- Donation Receiving / Sorting / Processing: These very important activities are the “backbone” of a thrift store. Volunteers greet donors and receive their donations. Donations are then sorted and processed, which may involve washing, mending, and repairing them; basically, getting them in a saleable condition. Donations deemed not suitable for re-sale in our shop are, to every extent possible, recycled to minimize the amount sent to landfill.
- Retail Floor Support: Volunteers are needed as cashiers to provide assistance to customers, and as workers to re-stock racks and shelves, tidy change rooms, etc.
- Electrical Testing: Tinkering a habit of yours? We are looking for volunteers to join our team testing small appliances and other electronic devices.
- Furniture pick-up and delivery: Some donors and customers don’t have the means of getting larger items to, or from, our store. This function requires the ability to lift heavy items and a personal vehicle is required.
If you are interested in learning more about our volunteer openings, please call PORT THRIFT at 905-835-8532, or drop by the store and speak with one of our store managers. They would be pleased to answer your questions.
